The first Canadian edition (which G&G describe as the 'First American edition - Canadian issue') was published by Morang (Toronto) in 1900, in an edition of 1,000 copies. Our offering is a third impression of the first edition, and was published in January, 1901 (G&G B1 d). The gilt lettering is bright and sharp. A bit of soiling to the spine. Very light shelf wear to boards. Former owner's name and date (April, 1901) on inside front board. The map facing the title page has been removed, leaving stub. Contents quite clean. A good plus copy. Ill.: five fold-out colour maps. A detailed history of the 'South African Trouble', mostly written while Conan Doyle was serving as a volunteer doctor.
