Pictorial endpapers from a 1901 painting by Russell of Buffalo descending a bluff into a river, and elk in the background. Previous owner's inscription and date (1950) to front free endpaper. 150 illustrations, 12 of which are in color, and 37 chapter headings from pen and ink drawings by Russell. Dustjacket shows chipping along top of rear, spine and front panels, with about 1/3 of the "Charles" at top-of-spine affected and tears along front flap joint. Now protected by mylar. Color frontis portrait on heavy paper of Charles Marion Russell. 350 pp. But for a few slight blemishes, a beautiful copy of this biography of one of the great Western artists, truly a creator of the people!
