"This study is a report on the results of archaeological investigations undertaken in the main between 1963 and 1971 in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa as part of a research programme entitled 'The Prehistory of the Eastern Cape'. It is concerned primarily with observations made at occurrences dating to the most recent geological period, the end of the Pleistocene and the Holocene or post-Pleistocene. The majority of the observations were made in an area contained between the mouth of the Great-Fish watershed, approximately 24 degrees - 27 degrees east and 31degrees - 34 degrees south. In colloquial usage the research area would correspond to the Eastern Cape and Cape Midlands.".
