- "495. Don Chris Armijo's Adobe House. Birthplace of Mrs. Gen. Phil Sheridan. Albuquerque, N. M. Parker Photo."

Cabinet card, 5 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches. 1880s. With imprint of photographer Francis Parker, San Diego on back.Very good, with slight wear to mount. Shows the long portal and doors and windows of the large Armijo adobe house. Mrs. Irene Rucker Sheridan was the daughter of Major Daniel Rucker who was stationed in New Mexico in the 1850s and lived for a time in the Cristobal Armijo home in Old Town, Albuquerque. Cristobal Armijo (1819 - 1901) was a half brother of Gen. Manuel Armijo, the last Governor of New Mexico under Mexican Rule. Irene Rucker was apparently born at Fort Union, not Albuquerque, in 1856. A rare image of a house that was torn down in 1910.
