(Mexico City): Cox and Carmichael, photographers. Original cabinet photograph, 5 x 8 inches, on plain card mount. Ca. 1890s. Minor staining in sky area, else near fine and sharp. Depicts a man in sombrero drawing pulque sap from huge maguey (agave) cactus. Next to him is a donkey with two large, probably leather bags for the sap on either side of his back. Field of maguey plants in background. A graphic image showing part of the process in the preparation of the popular fermented drink, pulque. PERCY S. COX of Mexico City was a photographer associated with R. J. Carmichael of COX & CARMICHAEL PHOTO STUDIO between 1880-1920.
