Jungk, Robert - Brighter Than 1000 Suns: The Moral & Political History of the Atomic Scientists

London, Victor Gollancz, Ltd., in association with Rupert Hart-Davis, Ltd., 1958. Third Impression. Hardcover. Size: 8vo 8" - 9" tall. Stated Third Impression, and translated from the original Swedish by James Cleugh. Discussions that are quite readable of Rutherford, Max Born, Niels Bohr, Dirac, Heisenberg, Joliot-Curie, Kapitza, Fuchs, Fermi, Oppenheimer, Szilard and Teller, with a special focus on the German science scene from the 1920s forward. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. From the personal library of Mr. Robert Allen as conveyed to me by his widow, Ms Priscilla (Brownie) Allen, he having been a noted bookseller and appraiser and also editor of a number of volumes of the The Eighteenth Century: a current bibliography series in a project headed at the University of Southern California. His pencil and pen markings at first free endpaper but then only two marginal marks thereafter. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Some pages toned from laid-in newspaper clippings, one left in at outset, being a full-on review from the Times Literary Supplement of Friday, June 20, 1958, reviewing this book and Werner Heisenberg's The Physicist's Conception of Nature. [9], 10-350 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . . . Good/Very Good,
