The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light rubbing and bumping. There is a bit of ground-in dirt to the front cover has well. The text pages are clean and bright. Included is a map as the frontispiece. "Williams was born at Abeih, Ottoman Turkey, the son of Congregational missionaries. He graduated from Amherst in 1873. Afterwards. He was employed at the New York World, and as a correspondent for the New York Sun and the San Francisco Chronicle." Included are sections regarding the massacre of Christians and of Armenians along with another section on the Kurds. " After the war ended, a military administration, named Occupied Enemy Territory Administration, was established in the captured territory of the former Ottoman Syria. The British sought legitimacy for their continued control of the region and this was achieved by obtaining a mandate from the League of Nations in June 1922. The formal objective of the League of Nations Mandate system was to administer parts of the defunct Ottoman Empire, which had been in control of the Middle East since the 16th century, "until such time as they are able to stand alone."
