Novello, Vincent. (1781-1861). Composer and founder of the publishing firm Novello & Co. - Signed Close of a Letter from Music Publisher Vincent Novello to Pianist/Composer Ann Mounsey (or Her Sister).
Circa [1850]. [1850]. - Close of a letter penned in black ink on a slip of paper, approximately 1-1/8 inches high by 4-5/8 wide. Signed "With my kind Comps to your sister, believe [me I] remain, dear Miss Mounsey, yours very truly / Vincent Novello". The top edge of the slip is slightly unevenly cut. Fragments of gray paper adhere to the verso where it has been removed from an album. Good. Vincent Novello [1781-1861] was an English musician, composer and music teacher. Many of his compositions were sacred music, much of it very popular. One of his greatest contributions to the musical life of his country was the introduction to England, together with Christian Ignatius Latrobe, of unknown works by great composers such as the Masses of Haydn and Mozart and the music of Palestrina. In 1811, he founded the publishing firm of Novello & Co. which was carried on and developed by his son.
Novello sends his compliments to the recipient's sister. He is writing therefore either to musician Ann Sheppard Mounsey or to her sister. Ann Mounsey [1811-1891] was a pianist, organist and composer. She became the organist at various London churches and performed at concerts and as an accompanist. Good .
