HANNAN, Philip - The Archbishop Wore Combat Books: Memoir of an Extraordinary Life -- from Combat, to Camelot, to Katrina

Huntington, IN, Our Sunday Visitor Publishing Division, 2010. Hardcover. Small 4to. Black cloth with silver spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 457pp. Illustrations. Fine/fine. Outstandingly pristine first edition of this fightin' cleric's autobiography -- chaplain to the 82nd Airborne Division during World War Two, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, DC (1956-65) and eleventh Archbishop of New Orleans (1965-88). As Hannan died at age 98 in 2011 shortly after the release of this book, copies signed by the nonagenarian aren't seen -- but this copy bears a fine autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a special heavy stock card signed boldly by Hannan in full in black fineline, dated by him 8 October 1970 at upper right. Laid in is the perfect bookmark -- the original signature transmittal envelope. .
