- THE STORY OF MY DICTATORSHIP

London, Bliss, Sands & Foster, 1894. 2nd Edition. 0 pp. Hardcover. Utopian novel set in Britain. "Second Edition, 2/-" on cover. 221,[1]pp small 8vo original pale green cloth boards. Light foxing but a very good firm and bright copy. ***Lyman Sargent has shown that the work was first published serialised from Dec.1887 in the Adelaide journal "Our Commonwealth", founded by Ignatius Singer to promote land nationalization and the single tax. It then appeared in the London Weekly Times & Echo from June 1893, and in book form in London, New York, Australia, and New Zealand all in 1894. The London edition was probably the earliest - listed in Pall Mall Gazette 25 Jan.1894 as "just published" (and copies of this had reached NZ and Australia by March 1894), while the US Sterling edition is first listed Brooklyn Daily Eagle 20 May 1894. The earliest ad for the NZ edition (price 9d.) is in late November 1894; the date of the Australian edition is uncertain, but copies of the UK and US editions were on sale there before it appeared. Very Good.
