Numan, Alexander - Handboek der genees- en verloskunde van het vee ingerigt naar de behoeften van het koningrijk der Nederlanden; onder opzigt der maatschappij: Tot Nut van het Algemeen. 2nd enlarged and corrected edition. Groningen, R.J. Schierbeek, 1826.

Half leather. Used copy, joints broken, back loose, but complete. 42 + 668 + (1) p. Illustrated with two folding engraved plates (dated 1818). The initiative for this book about the health and deliverance of cattle was taken by the society ‘Tot Nut van het Algemeen’. They asked Alexander Numan (1781-1854), a veterinarian at Hoogezand who had already published a translation from a German book on this subject by J.N. Rohlwes (1755-1823), to edit a completely new manual, based on his translation of Rohlwes. The fist edition appeared in 1819; a second edition was printed in 1826 and many editions were to follow. At least 10 different editions were printed in the 19th century. The manual informs the reader about illnesses of horses, cows, sheep, pigs and dogs, and the remedies, as well as about the deliverance of the animals.
