Map/Print, 1730/1738, Engraving, Good Condition, slight spotting: see photo, Fold in the middle as published, Print Size: 40x35 cm - Image Size: 27x35 cm PRINT TEXT: Vertooninge van de ontsachlyke Spaansche krygs vloot, in den jaare 1588 - (The mighty display of the Spanish armada in 1588 ) This engraving appeared in Jean Le Clerc's "Geschiedenissen der Vereenigde Nederlanden" (Histories of the United Netherlands). This multi-volume edition was published between 1730 and 1738. The etching shows the sea battle between the Spanish and combined Dutch and English fleets in the channel. On the return journey many Spanish ships were wrecked on the Irish coast. Ultimately, just over 60 ships of the invincible esteemed Spanish Armada returned. Good. Signed by Illustrator(s).
