One-half brown leather over marbled boards with matching marbled endpapers, spine with five raised bands, lettered in gilt in two compartments, lg 8vo. From the Journal of the Cincinnati Society of Natural History in ten parts from volume 6-11, 1883-1888. This is the original printing of this early work on the mycology of Ohio. It was originally published in journal form over a six-year period. Name stamp of James E. Humphrey is the margins of some pages. James Ellis Humphrey (1861-1897) was an American botanist and mycologist graduated from Harvard University. Humphrey likely assembled the ten parts of this work. This book is from the private research collection of University of Michigan mycologist Alexander H. Smith with his signature pasted on the front endpaper. A few plate margins trimmed close to the text with slight loss, a few old fold-marks to one 5-page section of text, light foxing to the title page; a very bright and clean copy in near fine copy..
