Two scenes on two sheets representing men and women enjoying the last day of Carnival (Carnaval), Shrove Tuesday, before Lent, a period of fasting before Easter. The representations are in the style of Callot, de Gheyn and Watteau.Under the first scene with a man playing a guitar-like instrument and a couple dancing is the inscription:t Is dwaasheid Jonkvrouw dus u nutte tyd te quistenGy kent de Mannen niet. gy kent geen Jongmans listen,Maar't is nu Vastens nagt men is nu willens mal,De Vasten avond vreugd brengt 't Vrouw volk ligt ten val.(What folly it is, my lady, to waste your time, you do not know the men, you do not know young men's tricks, but it is now Shrove Tuesday night, and people are willingly mad.
