PAUWELS, HERMAN J. - Noise Sources Describing Quantum Effects in the Laser Oscillator Technical Report 453

Cambridge, MA: Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Laboratory of Electronics, 1966. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. Graphs; This is a technical Report with cardstock covers and a glued binding. This report is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The report and its contents are in clean, bright condition. There is some light fading / toning to the gray cardstock covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "With quantum noise in the laser we mean those properties of the laser output that are caused by the quantum nature of the electromagnetic field and of the material systems and reservoirs with which it interacts. It is shown that a fully quantum-mechanical treatment of the laser can be formulated in a noise-source formalism, for which the noise sources are operators." The author, Herman J. Pauwels graduated with a Masters Degree from MIT in 1964 and was continuing on at MIT in the Ph. D. Program - this report is based on a thesis which was submitted by Pauwels to the Department of Defense which then partially fulfilled the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. While at MIT Mr. Pauwels worked for the Bell Telephone company and while there is very little information on the author after this time, it appears he continued to work in the field of lasers and electronics / radio transmission and helped co-author several other articles (at least one can be found in the Journal of Quantum Electronics). There are five copies of this report found in Worldcat and currently none on offer to the trade.. Very Good+ .
