Return of goods

Titelbl. verso mit Exlibris. Spanische Übersetzung von Robert Dodsleys (1703-1764) Werk The Oeconomy of Human Life, das erstmals 1751 anonym erschienen ist. Die Autorenschaft Dodsleys blieb zunächst unerkannt, oftmals wurde das Werk fälschlicherweise Philipp Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield zugeschrieben. Teils implizieren die Titel früher Ausgaben, dass das Werk eine aufgefundene indische Handschrift sei, die nun von einem im Peking lebenden Briten übersetzt wurde. Das Vorwort des vermeintlichen Übersetzers ist in der vorliegenden Ausgabe datiert Pekin, 12 de Mayo de 1749. Dodsley schildert philosophische Lebensweisheiten die scheinbar auf fernöstlichen Autoren basiert. Zeitgenössisch erfreute sich sein Werk grosser Beliebtheit, bis zum Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts erschienen zahlreiche Ausgaben u.a. auf Deutsch, Italienisch, Französisch, Dänisch und Spanisch. Das handschriftl. Titelblatt nennt irrig als Titel Topografia e Historia del Gran Imperio de la China.
