IRVING, DAVID - The Lives of the Scotish [Scottish] Poets, with Preliminary Dissertations on the Literary History of Scotland, and the Early Scotish Drama (In 2 volumes).

Netherbow, Edinburgh, [Scotland] Oliver & Boyd. 1810. Hardcover. Hardcover. In 2 matched volumes. 447/501 pages, portrait frontispieces. Mid-late 20th century rebinding in prosaic maroon leatherette cloth with gold letters. Tight and unworn bindings. Evidently these were library copies at one point because of a faint 'withdrawn' stamp on the top edges, only. The books must have been rebound (but not trimmed) after the library withdrawal, the bindings have no institutional markings, but are of that form. All edges of the pages are marbled, the marbled free endpapers have been retained and backed up with plain paper. No markings on the inside pages, except for some neat, early additions to the index. Occasional foxing spots, especially on the preliminary pages. Dampstain to final blank of vol. 1. Acidic transfer of frontispiece picture to titlepages. Still a good, comfortable to read, pair. 1810 printing, the first edition was several years before this. Good.
