Study of this important area in the history of London, at a time when it was yet to undergo the profound changes of the later years of the century. Lots on Guys Hospital, but much on the smaller streets and buildings too, and of course the Tudor theatres for which it was best known. The Survey of London (Parish) series began in 1900 and 120 years later the 53rd volume was published. Much of the city remains to be covered.
