Thomas, Theodore - Theodore Thomas and His Unraveled Orchestra Summer Garden Concerts in the Exposition Building Program

Chicago, Wm. Johnston Printing Co. 1890. Large program; 10 1/2 x 7 1/4; pp. [4]; salmon-colored stock; illustrated with drawings, woodcuts, and a photograph; a few nicks to edges and a closed cut to top margin; a small, manuscript notation to pp. 2; overall in very good condition. Theodore Thomas (1835 - 1905) was a German-American violinist and conductor, founder and first director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the first American orchestral conductor. A musical prodigy, he began his career in several pit orchestras in New York at just 10 years of age. He eventually moved to Chicago and from 1877 until 1891 - Theodore led Summer Garden Concerts in the Inter-State Industrial Exposition Building in Lake Park, where people paid twenty-five to fifty cents to enjoy his concerts and the beautiful location. Very good .
