He taught canon law at several universities, including Montpelier, Toulouse, Cahors, and in Paris. Professor Howell A. Lloyd, in "Constitutional Thought in Sixteenth Century France: The Case of Pierre Rebuffi" (French History, 1994) notes that Rebuffi belonged to the school of thought that favoured authoritarian monarchy. "Chief amongst his writings were treatises on the law concerning ecclesiastical benefices. In his Praxis Beneficiorum, he provided a thorough-going examination of the conditions upon which benefices might be gained, held, and resigned."
