Hume's account of the controversy between himself and Rousseau was first published in Paris on 20 October 1766, translated from English by J. B. A. Suard and edited by d'Alembert. This is the counterfeit edition, printed in London, with press figures, probably published in early November, 1766. See W. B. Todd's note in Book Collector, vii (1958), 191. Chuo 78.
