The book contains the Shaffer Lectures delivered at Yale Divinity School in May 1965 which were delivered again at the faculty of Theology at Hamburg University in July 1966. In these lectures Professor Barrett attempts to see through the teaching of the Gospels to the teaching of Jesus himself, about his person, his mission, his suffering, and his hopes for the future.
