ARIS Ernest - That Little White Puppy. [Written and Illustrated by Ernest Aris]. REMARKABLY WELL-PRESERVED COPY
Henry Frowde, Hodder & Stoughton,, n.d. [c.1916]. Oblong 12mo., First Edition, with coloured frontispiece, title and text in red and black, and 19 monochrome illustrations (a number full-page) in the text, small neat contemporary signature on front paste-down; original coloured pictorial boards (illustration not repeated in text), very neatly recased with original paper back laid down, new white presentation ribbon and bow threaded through upper board to style, a very good, bright, clean copy. With the trade ticket of Blinko & Sons of Ramsgate on rear paste-down. One of the scarcest titles in the 'Little' series, with the novelty of hand-finished presentation ribbons in the colour of the title. The text is printed in 'handwritten' script that must have been challenging for younger children. The series, of which some half-a-dozen titles are known, was commissioned for H&S following Frowde's departure from Oxford University Press in 1913. No titles from the series appear to be listed in BLPC. VERY SCARCE IN ANY EDITION, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.
