BOSWELL, JAMES. - Life of Samuel Johnson, the
PANTHER, 1961. Paperback. Mass Market Paperback in Good+ condition. A solid binding with an unmarked text, age tanning to the pages and light spine creasing. " The text of this complete and unabridged edition is that of the 1791 first edition, and it remains, by common consent, the greatest biography in the English language. Johnson's centrality in 18th century letters is established not only by Boswell's record of his life and conversations, but also by the success of the work in placing him in a literary and cultural context. James Boswell (1740-95) was educated at Edinburgh and Glasgow universities as a lawyer. He moved to London in 1760, and was by turns a libertine and a Puritan. Introduced by his friends Sheridan and Garrick, Boswell met Johnson in 1763, and discovered a life's calling. "; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 320 pages. Very Good .

""A glossary of hippocratic terms"" [Garrison-Morton]. - Commentarius in libellum Theophrasti De vertigine. (Titre, 1 f.n.ch. de dédicace, 41 pp., 1 f.n.ch.) Cf Krivatsy 582. Édition originale. ""Includes Greek and Latin text of Theophrastus's De vertigine"" [Krivatsy] - De convulsionibus libellus. (Titre, 7 ff.n.ch., 51 pp., 2 ff.n.ch.) Cf Krivatsy 585. ""De Baillou was a follower of Hippocrates in his advancement of the doctrines of 'epidemic constitutions'. Crookshank regards him as the first modern epidemiologist (…) A pupil of Fernel, de Baillou was a brillant writer and speaker. The above work includes a description of the epidemic of diphteria in Paris, 1576. Later de Baillou advocated of tracheotomy, although there is no evidence that he performed that operation (…) First description of whooping cough. Baillou called it tussis quintana"". Cf. Garrison-Morton, loc. cit. Desiderius Erasmus 11682, Cyprian - Cyprianus, Thascius Caecilius. Erasmus, Desiderius Von Rotterdam. Eucherii Lugdunensis.
Poncetum le preux, 1541. Perkament. later edition of the work of Saint-Cyprian edited by Erasmus from recently discovered manuscripts. Cyprian was a bishop of Carthage and an early Christian writer of Berber descent, many of whose Latin works are extant. He is recognized as a saint in the Western and Eastern churches. He was born around the beginning of the 3rd century in North Africa, perhaps at Carthage,[5] where he received a classical education. Soon after converting to Christianity, he became a bishop in 249. A controversial figure during his lifetime, his strong pastoral skills, firm conduct during the Novatianist controversy and outbreak of the Plague of Cyprian (named for his description of it), and eventual martyrdom at Carthage established his reputation and proved his sanctity in the eyes of the Church. His skilful Latin rhetoric led to his being considered the pre-eminent Latin writer of Western Christianity until Jerome and Augustine.[With a Printer`s Mark of Poncet le Preux (1481-1559?) showing two dragons looking backwards and holding a shield with the initials P. L. P. A child and a seraph feeding birds can be seen in the trees. Poncet le Preux was a printer and bookseller in Paris. Cond./Kwaliteit: Redelijk.
