ROTHKO - Anfam, David: - Mark Rothko. The Works on Canvas. Catalogue Raisonné.
New Haven/ Washington 1999, (30 x 30 cm), 708 pp. English, 834 ills. (most colour), clothbound/d-jacket/ slipcase. This massive book is the first volume of the definitive catalogue raisonné of Mark Rothko (1903-1970). When Mark Rothko started his career in New York in the early 1920s, America had no established art. Before his tragic suicide, he completed a mural series for the Rothko Chapel commissioned by the de Menil family, accomplishing for American painting what the Monet water lilies did for French painting in the 1920s. David Anfam connects Rothko to major figures in art history with a historical, philosophical, literary, mythical, and psychological framework for the artist's development as a painter. Within the catalog itself the reproductions are grouped chronologically, with a complete concordance. Inscription, collection, provenance, and exhibition and publication information for each painting are also provided, and the book closes with the most extensive bibliography compiled on Rothko to date. The catalog will continue with works on paper in additional volumes.

MURAKAMI - Allen, Laura W. & Hiroko Ikegami & Masako Shiba & Takashi Murakami - Murakami. Unfamilair People - Swelling of Monsterized Human Ego.
09 2023, (20,3 x 30,4 cm), 144 pp. English text, 120 colour ills. + 4 gatefolds, hardcover. This fresh look at artist Takashi Murakami takes on the 'monstrous' themes of rampant consumerism, human fallibility, and the perils of life in the digital fast lane, in works from the past decade. One of Japan's leading contemporary artists, Takashi Murakami (b. 1962) is known for a wide-ranging practice that encompasses not only fine art but fashion, consumer products, curation, and entertainment. Founder of the Superflat movement, Murakami makes art that is larger than life, boldly colored, and buoyant, with a Pop sensibility that draws inspiration from anime and manga. But beyond the happy flowers and kawaii characters that have defined Murakami's career lurk darker manifestations: the sharp-toothed, multi-eyed monsters that have increasingly become the artist's vehicle for expressing the effects of rampant consumerism, human fallibility, and the perils of life in the digital fast lane. This book explores these themes in works from the last decade, presenting a disquieting vision of monsterized beings born in an era of unprecedented environmental, political, and social turmoil. Conversations with Murakami and essays by Laura W. Allen, Hiroko Ikegami, and Masako Shiba deconstruct what monsters mean to the artist and reflect on new directions in Murakami's sculpture and the genesis of his recent NFT projects. The book features lavish color illustrations, a plastic jacket, dyed edges, and four gatefolds. Published in association with the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco
