Signed and inscribed by the author to upper margin of front wrap.William Buell Sprague (1795 - 1876) was an American Congregational and Presbyterian clergyman. Author of numerous books, his most famous one would be "Annals of the American Pulpit" - a biographical dictionary of pre-1850, American, Protestant ministers. He was also an avid collector of manuscripts, a member of the American Antiquarian Society, and would become known as the first person to acquire a complete set of the signatures of the signers of the United States Declaration of Independence. He accepted the call to pastor the Second Presbyterian Church in Albany, the one, where he gave his current sermon, in 1829 and ministered there for 40 years. Ill.: 0. 2.
