Published on November 27, 1869, depicting Ferdinand Marie, Comte de Lesseps (19 November 1805 – 7 December 1894), a French Orientalist diplomat and later developer of the Suez Canal, which in 1869 joined the Mediterranean and Red Seas, substantially reducing sailing distances and times between Europe and East Asia. Vanity Fair was a British magazine known for its social, political, and literary content. It gained fame particularly for its caricatures of prominent figures of the time. These caricatures, drawn by renowned artists, captured the essence of their subjects with a mix of humor, satire, and artistry. .
