Vincent Brooks, Day & Son (Lith.). Scarce. Published on February 21, 1891, depicting William Black (13 November 1841 – 10 December 1898), a novelist born in Glasgow, Scotland. During his lifetime, Black's novels were immensely popular and compared favorably with those of Anthony Trollope. However, his fame and popularity did not survive long into the 20th century. Vanity Fair was a British magazine known for its social, political, and literary content. It gained fame particularly for its caricatures of prominent figures of the time. These caricatures, drawn by renowned artists, captured the essence of their subjects with a mix of humor, satire, and artistry. .
