Description: Chicago: Wendell J. S. Krieg, March 8 1950. ALS from Dr. Wendell Jordan S. Krieg (1906-1997), professor of anatomy at Northwestern University Medical School, to Dr. Dille (James Madison Dille, 1907-?), proprietor of Silver Quoin Press, a fine press producing limited editions. Dr. Krieg, in addition to being a noted neuroscientist, was a collector of "everything from books and type as well as typefaces to paintings and ideas" (obit. Chicago Tribune 1997). Letter discusses books sent by Dille, fine presswork in general, and Krieg's attempts at typography and woodcuts. Of the several woodcuts mentioned as enclosed, 24 are present, including 8 recording the building of "The Nautilus," Krieg's Cape Cod cabin, and three "inscrutable small black ones .. for illustrating a stage dissection of an ox eye." Slightly age-toned but otherwise Fine. From the collection of Frederick Gale Ruffner, Jr. (1926-2014) the founder of the Detroit based reference book publisher, Gale Research. .
