Description: Circa 1957. 18 gelatin silver photographic prints.10 black and white photographs of building models (4 duplicates), 8 black and white photographs of drawings (1 duplicate). 4 backed with linen. All approximately 30x23 cm (11¾x9").. A few are mounted on clinen with 3 holes for binders.. 8 renderings and 10 of the actual buildings. The 18 photographs of different aspects of the prospective Frankfurt, Germany, Amerika Haus, designed by the American architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, in cooperation with German architect Otto Appel. Amerika Haus was an institution developed after World War II with locations across Germany and Austria, serving as an information and cultural center of the United States. Until its dissolution in 2006, its locations reflected the transatlantic relationship between the countries, consistently found in the middle of cultural and political discussions and discourse... The Amerika Haus moved twice (to Taunusanlage 12 in 1948, and then to the former U.S. consulate building at Bockenheimer Anlage 11 in 1954) before moving into its last location in May 1957. The building in the Staufenstraße was designed by the well-known American architectural firm, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, in cooperation with German architect Otto Appel. .
