Title: Flyer for "Plume Au Vent.
Description: Paris: COCINOR, 1953. 6 page flyerr. 31.5 x 15.5 cm. A filmed operetta ,"La Plume Au vent " will appeal to Georges Guétary's fans but strictly to them :they will not be disappointed:their idol croons a dozen of tunes, solo, with the housewives 'chorus on the market place, with his pals or with co-star Carmen Sevilla,(French -spanish production) the regular female star of the Mariano/Guétary vehicles .Songs include "Vivent Les Pharmaciens " (= long live the chemists)and "La Soupe Aux Choux" (=cabbage soup),two singalong ditties... The plot revolves round a case of mistaken identities,a 4 million inheritance ,an inn where the only dish that is served seems to be chicken,a vet surgeon who attracts all the girls around much to the displeasure of his colleague/father,and even sci-fi :a young scientist creates a ray which creates weightlessness ,at least for forks and knives . The best moment is Sevilla's dream, treated as a fairy tale :she is lost in the forest a la Snowwhite ,and she meets her beau and her mother dressed up as a witch, counting money;in the reality she wants her daughter to marry for money.. Provenance: Thérèse Bénard, Tours, France..New York Times. Sept. 19, 1997: Georges Guetary, 82, Suave French Singer, Dies: By Lawrence Van Gelder:::: Georges Guetary, the French singing star best known to American audiences as Gene Kelly's rival for the affections of Leslie Caron in the Oscar-winning 1951 film ''An American in Paris,'' died on Saturday in a clinic in Mougins on the French Riviera. Mr. Guetary, who lived in Cannes, was 82.. In ''An American in Paris,'' built around the music of George Gershwin, Mr. Guetary was the focus of attention in a spectacular scene in which he strutted up and down a majestic staircase singing ''I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise'' while flanked by willowy and scantily (but flamboyantly) clad showgirls; he shared the spotlight with Kelly in a rousing rendition of '' 'S Wonderful.''.. Although Mr. Guetary also performed on the London and Broadway stages, he achieved his greatest renown in France, where his career of nearly 60 years took off when he became the singing partner of the music hall queen Mistinguett at the Casino de Paris not long after making his first stage appearance in 1938.. He was a fixture for nine years at the Chatelet operetta theater, appeared in more than a score of French films, starred on stage with the French comedian Bourvil in ''The Flowered Way,'' made records, sang and danced on television and gave some 40 gala performances a year until his retirement on the Riviera two years ago. .
