The pool is enclosed in the immediate foreground by campshedding, and on the left by a reedy bank in drypoint which sweeps to the background in the middle left. The sky appears stormy and there are faint horizontal lines between the upper and middle shadows of the tree in the water above the center of the plate. Published in Gazette des Beaux-Arts, XVII (1864), 358. Additional work in reeds and water at center left. With the inscription Egham Lock.
