William Nicholson (England, 1753-1815) was an inventor, writer, and scientist. He made many important scientific contributions such as discovering the electrolysis of water and founding an important scientific journal. Prolific and with varied interests, he wrote on numerous topics in addition to chemistry.. Boards with scuffing and one small tear to lower board, light edgewear, and some creasing at joints and spine; interior with foxing and uneven toning, both mostly very light, with paper thinner and more heavily toned at title page, preliminaries, and some additional pages in vol. II; pages with occasional small mark, tear or light grime, with expected offsetting, and a few leaves with a tiny burn hole or mark; H3 with 1 1/2-in. tear and 2T1 with 1-in. tear at outer margin; plates foxed otherwise near fine; an attractive and very good volume...
