They reside in Mougins, in the south of France. Images of Jacqueline continue to figure prominently in Picasso’s work. In 1964 he paints portraits of Jacqueline posed seated and as a reclining nude, often with a cat. Picasso then draws a series of pencil sketches alternating between the head of Shakespeare and that of a monkey. Mid-year he does a series of portraits of men: often bearded, with a cigarette and wearing a striped shirt... In October of 1964, Picasso completes 29 paintings of an artist at an easel. These all take as their starting point his 1963 painting The Painter. Picasso then makes paintings of an artist and model. In December, Picasso creates a number of works depicting the head of a man or a boy... In the early part of 1965, Picasso begins a series with a lobster, usually being attacked by a cat. He also paints the first in a series of a youth serenading a nude woman at dawn on the beach titled - L’aubade, and works on a group of views of Mougins. In March there is a series with a nude model seated in a room and a canvas on an easel, sometimes with an artist present. In April the artist starts looking like Picasso and the model like Jacqueline... During April of 1965, Picasso paints large horizontal canvases of a nude, often reclining, next to the head or torso of a man or boy. Another horizontal canvas is the first of the Watermelon Eaters. Picasso continues to paint horizontal views of Mougins, and by mid-year, Picasso paints a series of heads, childlike with bold lines. During October, Picasso begins painting images of a mother and child. The artist is not particularly productive during 1966. In the early part of 1966, Picasso produces only some sketches and in April he begins a series after Jupiter et Thétis by Ingres. For the balance of the year, Picasso does caricatures and sketches on themes from previous years... During January of 1967, Picasso creates sketches including a musician, watermelon eater, flutist and man holding a lamb. Picasso also begins ink washes and oil paintings of a musketeer, which develop into a painter who then caresses a model. The musketeer, sometimes as an artist, sometimes with a nude woman, becomes a series of paintings in March and April. Between April and June, Picasso designs a number of covers for the book Picasso: Theatre... In June Picasso continues the Serenade at Dawn series. From July through September, Picasso draws sketches with a variety of themes. In October, he makes a group of drawings of a violent and distorted kissing couple. At the end of 1967, Picasso completes paintings based on his sketches from the previous summer and winter. .
