Though the original painting from 1908 picture has usually been known since at least 1928 as 'Le Prétoire' (The Court), it appears in the Bernheim-Jeune records under the title used here. This engraving in colors by Forain and Pierre Labrouche and signed by Forain was published in an edition of 150. The image shows a lawyer inhabiting a different world is shuffling through disordered papers, while his client and her children sit waiting in the office. Gravé en collaboration avec P.
