Matranga, circa late 19th century to early 20th, Monreale Cathedral was built in commemoration of the exiled bishop from hundreds of years earlier, 1174 King William the II built it to balance power between him and the Bishop of Palmaro, the King was an admirer of middle eastern art and hired the finest middle eastern and Norman artists creating a unique and innovative fusion of architecture, artistic traditions, and religious symbolism, in 2015 the site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
