Description: Washington, DC: Wendell & Van Benthuysen, Printers, 1848. Modern 3/4 goatskin and marbled boards by the art bookbinder Sasha Mosalov. 1-3] 4-277 [1, blank] pp. (8vo) 23.5 x 15 cm (9¼x6"), contemporary three-quarter goat over marbled boards, spine gilt lettered. First Edition. 30th Congress, 1st Session, House Exec. Doc. 60. With ink signature and presentation of A. Alexander on front pastedown. This compilation is one of the most significant documents relating to the commencement of the war and its hostilities. In his message of May 11, 1846, Polk declares to Congress that he is going to bring the war to a speedy conclusion. As might be expected, there is a good deal of discussion on the annexation of Texas and deteriorating relations with Mexico due to that issue. Also present is copious official correspondence relating to the Army of Occupation at Corpus Christi and the Texas battles, as well as material on the conquest of California and New Mexico. .
