Description: Augsburg: circa 1740. Copper-engraved map; partly hand-colored; 50 x 58 cm (19¾ x 22¾"). Condition: Old paper repairs on verso near centerfold, remains of mounting tape; very good. London and the surrounding areas of Kent, Essex, Middlesex and a part of Surrey. The map includes such detail as towns, roads, churches and monasteries, castles, parks, marshes, hills, forests and rivers. The title cartouche is surmounted with the royal arms and is surrounded by figures including a group of merchants and the mythical figures of Mercury and Fortune. .
