Description: London: Robert Cribb, 1796 ( printed circa 1837). Stipple engravings. 25 x 19 inches sheet size. Whole-length portrait, seated, slightly to left, looking to front and holding the seal of the Royal Charter in his right hand, gloves in left. In the left background are ships at sea. In the right foreground is a terrestrial globe. Captain Thomas Coram (c.1668 - 1751) created the London Foundling Hospital, which opened its doors in a temporary facility in Hatton Garden in 1741 and moved to a more permanent location in Bloomsbury the following year. .
