Alfred Ellis (1854-1930) was an active photographer between 1884 and 1899. He operated a studio on Upper Baker Street in London. Provenance: From a collection of letters and papers amassed by illustrator and painter Geoffrey Robinson during his years as a publisher with Rockliff, John Baker, Maclaren, et al. The ink notation by a later hand. The National Portrait Gallery has a paintng of the actress by Ambrose McEvoy (no. 5506). .
