Alan Dean was voted the Britain's most popular male singer in the Melody Maker 1949-50 popularity poll and retained that position until 1952. This is David Bacon, the nephew of Max Bacon. Before becoming a character actor, Max Bacon was one of the most significant drummers in Britain during the 1920s and 30s. He wrote Max on “Swing" (1934). David was the proprietor of the Heywood Hill Bookstore in Mayfair, London, which still exists. .
