Published in Vanity Fair, 26 August 1871. Manuel Rancés y Villanueva, Marqués de Casa Layglesia, was born in Cádiz in 1824 and died in Ciudad Real in 1897. Politician, diplomat and journalist, he was plenipotentiary minister in different countries, governor of Cádiz and senator and deputy to Cortes. During his time in London he was a personal friend of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales, after Edward VII. .
