This auction catalogue documents the historic Thursday, October 18th 1973 sale of fifty blue chip works from the pioneering collection of Robert C. - and his here-uncredited wife Ethel - Scull. This single evening kickstarted the secondary market for Post-war Contemporary Art by living American artists, especially those of the Pop persuasion; and resulted in the infamous heated confrontation between Robert Rauschenberg and the newly enriched Mr. Scull captured in Emile D'Antonio's documentary "Painters Painting".
