British Museum Museum number 2004,0531.27: Description Satire: a Jesuit spears a buxom figure of Fame through her breasts; a manuscript lettered "Conaxa" is inserted into the end of the spear; Fame drops another manuscript lettered "les deux Gendres" and breaks wind as she expires. 12 February 1812..Curator's comments The satire is one of a number based on a series of events occuring in 1812, relating to the comedy 'Les Deux Gendres' by Charles-Guillaume Étienne produced in 1810 (see De Vinck nos.8696-8706). The author was accused of plagiarising a play entitled "Conaxa", written by an unknown Jesuit in 1710 and this was revived by his enemies on 3 January 1812. De Vinck records that this plate was deposited on 12 February 1812. It was listed in the 'Bibliographie de la France' for 22 February by Auguste Gabriel, Paris..Provenance: Sophie Renard, Chateau-Thierry. 02400 Brasles, France. .
