The following is based on the Daler-Rowney website : Richard and Thomas Rowney began in business in London in 1783 selling perfumes and wig powder, becoming artists' colourmen at the end of the century, and later developing a lithographic printing business. The company remained in central London until 1969, when it moved to Bracknell; at the same time the last member of the family Tom Rowney, sold the business to Morgan Crucible; in 1983 it was re-sold to the Daler-Board Company becoming Daler-Rowney. Trade card in Heal Collection (Heal,89.135) advertises "Rowney & Forster, Superfine Colour Preparers & Varnish Makers to their Majesties the Prince & Princess of Wales and Principal Artists.. .
