Author: Cinquini, Alain (1941-2021), photographer Title: Original Large Format Color Photograph of Alain Delon Getting Off a Helicopter at Cannes
Description: Cannes: circa 1990s. Original Agfa Color photograph on Fujichrome paper. 30.6 x 20.3 cm. Titled and signed on the verso in black ink by the photographer..Delon returned to the criminal genre with Jean Gabin in Any Number Can Win (1963). This work, a classic example of the genre, was distinguished not only by a soundly worked-out screenplay, but also by the careful production and the excellent performances of both Delon and Gabin. It was only in the late 1960s that the sleek and lethal Delon came to epitomize the calm, psychopathic hoodlum, staring into the camera like a cat assessing a mouse. His tough, ruthless side was first used to real effect by Jean-Pierre Melville in Le Samouraï (1967). In 1970 he had a huge success in the bloodstained Borsalino (1970)--which he also produced--playing a small-time gangster in the 1930s who, with Jean-Paul Belmondo, becomes king of the Marseilles underworld. Delon later won critical acclaim for his roles, against type, in Joseph Losey's Mr. Klein (1976) in which he played (brilliantly) the icily sinister title role, and the art-movie Swann in Love (1984). He has an older son Anthony Delon (who has also acted in a number of movies) from his first marriage to Nathalie Delon, and has a young son and daughter, Alain-Fabien and Anouchka with Rosalie.... L'Est Républicain - Nov. 04, 2012: [Article on Alain Cinquini]..It all started when he came across Yves Montand, Paul Newman and their respective wives. “I went to ask them to take a picture. Newman didn't want to. Simone Signoret told me that it was good to have asked- Montand understood that I would be there, at the exit of the restaurant, and practically organized a session by showing the mountain to Paul Newman. ».. Alain Cinquini takes his first photo of stars; that he does not exhibit for several days. It was on the advice of a friend that he finally made contact with the Gamma agency. The beginning of a great career.. In a quarter of a century, Alain Cinquini will take between 80,000 and 100,000 shots of the greatest stars, becoming one of the essential independent photographers in the south of France and Monaco.. He will maintain privileged relations with stars cinema and artists like Armand or César, among others. In short, an exemplary career during which he will never steal an image and will never violate the privacy of his "clients". Quite the opposite of the paparazzi as we understand it today: “I have a way of working, with respect for people, probably because I was brought up that way. Some of my colleagues sometimes wondered how I managed to get certain photos. It was simply because I was seen well, that I was doing my job correctly. And with correction- Having a good reputation, in this environment, it counts, it opens doors..
