This impression had been signed and numbered by the artist as one of an edition of ten prints, but he then erased them. At the top is written in ink, "May 25, 1803-April 27, 1882"; at the bottom is written, "And what is a weed? / A plant whose virtues have / not yet been discovered / Ralph Waldo Emerson". The lower text is written over faint ruled lines in pencil. This is understood to be a trial impression, perhaps because of a small marginal rubbed area center right. Near fine, otherwise, with several areas of masking tape residue on the verso that bleed through very faintly. .
