Title: A Full and Circumstantial Account of the Memorable Battle of Waterloo: the Second Restoration of Louis XVIII; and the Deportation of Napoleon Buonaparte to the Island of St Helena […].
Description: London: printed for Thomas Kelly […] by Rider and Weed, 1817. First edition. 4to., pp.[iv], 509, [i] + frontispiece, folding map, and 18 further plates all as called for. With additional engraved title-page, publisher's catalogue to final page. Short closed tear to engraved title, closed tear to folding map repaired on verso with tape. Occasional patches of light toning, very good. Tan reverse calf neatly rebacked, raised bands, spine tooled in black with red morocco gilt label, borders tooled in black, endpapers renewed. Rubbed, some small marks and chips, corners frayed, still very good. From the Preface: 'the Proprietor has spared no expense - the Editor has shrunk from no laborious research, to render it worthy of universal patronage. Official papers and works of established reputation have been primarily consulted, as historical documents; much original information has been communicated by a gentleman who has actually visited the field of battle, and other parts of the Netherlands; a rich fund of anecdote has been collected from various authors of unquestionable veracity; - and a bona fide abridgement of the popular letters from St Helena has been introduced; to convey to the reader an accurate picture of the retirement, conversations, and pursuits of that adventurer, who, we trust, will; never be permitted to quit his present abode till his inordinate ambition is extinguished with his life.'
