Slightly foxed, occasional tiny marks, a few leaves of vol. 1 with paper flaws to bottom margins. Handsome vellum bindings, spines with raised bands tooled in black and gold with black titles, edges red, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. A little greyed, some slight smudgy marks, very good indeed. Small label to front pastedown of Heffers of Cambridge. At top of ffep verso a small binder's stamp of 'White, 24 Pall Mall' This edition includes notes by R.F.P. Brunck, I.H. Voss, E.C.F. Wunderlich and I.C. Jahn. Heyne (1729-1812) developed an international reputation for himself from the study of Roman poetry, and particularly Virgil; his notes are found in other contemporary variorum editions. .
