The second novel published by John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris (1903-1969) under his John Wyndham pseudonym. It appeared two years after The Day of the Triffids. His previous novels, Planet Plane (1936), Foul Play Suspected (1935) and The Secret People (1935), were written under the pen name John Beynon and not mentioned in the publicity for his works as Wyndham.
